As the holiday season begins, LDA Texas encourages families, educators, and communities to take time to support and celebrate individuals with learning disabilities. December brings joy, but it can also introduce schedule changes, travel, and sensory demands that feel overwhelming for some students.
A few helpful strategies include maintaining consistent routines, providing clear expectations, and allowing quiet breaks when needed. Small adjustments can make gatherings, school events, and family travel more comfortable and enjoyable.
Winter break is also a great time to reinforce academic skills in fun, low-pressure ways—reading together, playing games that use math and problem-solving, cooking, writing cards, or journaling. These activities help maintain progress while keeping learning enjoyable.
This season is also an opportunity to recognize the strengths of individuals with learning disabilities. Celebrating effort, growth, creativity, and resilience builds confidence and supports self-advocacy in the new year.
LDA Texas remains committed to raising awareness, promoting early identification, and supporting effective instruction for all Texans with learning disabilities. Together, we can continue building a more inclusive and informed community.
From all of us at LDA Texas—warm wishes for a peaceful, joyful, and empowering holiday season.
